Description
Before proceeding, ensure that your dog is calm and still. If your dog is not accustomed to having their nails trimmed, it might be beneficial to have someone else present to help hold them. Firmly grasp the dog's toe, keeping it steady. Open the clippers by pulling down the safety catch. The clippers are equipped with a guard that ensures only a small portion of the nail is cut. Position the clipper over the very tip of the claw and gently close it to remove the end of the nail.
Please note: It is crucial to trim only the very end of the claw. Cutting too much may result in clipping the quick, which is a vein running through the claw and can cause pain. For dogs with dark-colored claws, identifying the quick can be challenging. Try examining it from underneath the claw. Regardless of the length of the claws, exercise caution and trim only the very tip. If the claws are long, trim them gradually in small increments to help the quick recede.
